With only 1 day left in in 2019, December capped the year off with some surprising-yet-lovely gems! Let's take a look at my top tracks from December!
1. Kehlani - All Me (feat. Keyshia Cole)
Words can't begin to form for the love that I have for this record. It's no hidden fact, that I'm utterly obsessed with Kehlani, but this "All Me" track is literally the one! Originally scrapped and buried, the song was brought back to the surface when fans saw Kehlani dancing to it in one of her triller videos which spawned the hashtag, #DropTheSongKehlani.
After seeing the demand for the song, she worked hard, cleaned it up, and released it! To everyone's surprise, Lani tapped the R&B veteran herself, Keyshia Cole. The two came together and made SWEET Honey with this record.
From production, to vocalism, melody, and more, the song is great from beginning to end. The two gush over their lovers and the feelings that each of them bring to their hearts. It's so gentle but it cranks so very hard.
2. Rico Nasty - Hard
With her debut album coming in 2020, Rico ends 2019 with a nice full-throttle track to feed her listeners. Hard is a simple reminder to any of your haters that basically everything you do is hard, incomparable, and above everything and everyone else. Rico is raw, in-your-face, and unapologetic! She says exactly what's on her mind and does it with so much swag. She's the rockstar everybody aspires to be.
3 . Lil Uzi Vert - Futsal Shuffle 2020
2019 was a pretty chaotic year for Mr. Uzi Vert. From retiring from music, to signing with a new label and dropping a string of singles, Lil Uzi Vert has definitely had a interesting year. To end his 2019, the rapper dropped his highly anticipated "Futsal Shuffle 2020."
The dance-heavy electronic vibe is definitely one of the best releases of the month. He maintains the same charisma that caused his listeners to fall in love with him years ago. The song makes you want to dance at any given moment.
4. Roddy Rich - The Box
Mr. Roddy Ricch blazed through with his debut album, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial at the beginning of the month, and from it came quite a few gems! The lead track that caught many listener's attention was "The Box!"
The production alone is what really reeled me all the way in for this record. Roddy comes in fiery with his mixing of melody / rapping. He raps about his luxury lifestyle, and avoiding prison on the trap banger.
5. Sunday Service Choir - More Than Anything
Now there is much to say about Kanye, his antics, releases, words, and thoughts that he has shared over the course of the year, but the best thing he did was creating this Sunday Service Choir! With his latest project, Jesus Is Born, Kanye's Sunday Service Choir literally delivers one of the best worship albums of the year!
"More Than Anything" literally places its listeners right in the presence of God and overwhelms them in the most beautiful way possible. It is infectious as it infiltrates your spirit and leaves you thirsting for more of God. You simply can't help but say, "Lord, I love you more than anything."
6. Usher - Don't Waste My Time (feat. Ella Mai)
Although the song was leaked last month, it officially released a month later (and boy are we happy to hear it). "Don't Waste My Time" marks the first collaboration between Usher and Ella Mai and I pray it won't be the last. The two sing to their lovers letting them know that they crave them and desire them in every way possible but they beg them to not waste their time.
The feel and production is very laid back and smooth. It is a very chill R&B record. It is rumored that this track is a single from Usher's upcoming Confessions 2 album, set to release in 2020.
7. Young Thug - Diamonds (feat. Gunna)
So Much Fun garnered much success to the head slime himself, Young Thug. This month, Thugger decided to release the deluxe edition of the album and with arrived this hot banger, "Diamonds." The track features frequent collaborator, Gunna, and the two get right to business on the catchy tune.
Flexing about their expensive habits, jewelry, and lifestyle, the two possess such a chemistry that makes you want even more. The song is definitely one of those records that grab you on first listen.
8. Roddy Ricch - Peta (feat. Meek Mill).
Peta is another one of those gems from Roddy's album that I discussed. Both he and Meek Mill splurge about their expensive furs, clothes, and jewels. The two taunt PETA ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) as Meek raps about his animal fur flex saying:
"I'm rocking furs on furs (Furs) I'm probably beefing with Peta."
This was definitely one of my favorite songs from the album off of the first listen.
9. Rich Homie Quan - Freddy Krueger
It's been quite a while since I heard from Rich Homie, but he came through with his latest project, Coma! Immediately after playing it, I fell in love with "Freddy Krueger!" It immediately brought me back to my freshmen year in college with its production and Rich Homie's trademark flow and delivery.
Rich Homie raps about having bad dreams, dealing with failure and regaining his focus, his future, women, and everything else that comes with the street life.
10. Big Flock - Slide
After being locked away in prison for a few years, the DMV's own, Big Flock returned home and made a huge statement with the release of his latest project, Last 5Eva. Before releasing the project, Flock gave the streets some heat with the project's lead single, "Slide."
After teasing fans with a snippet of the song in his Triller video, he released the track and it just makes you feel utterly thorough. It brings out my infamous stink face and makes you just wanna blast it at any time of the day.
The production is deadly and Flock gets right to work rapping about the type of dudes he hangs with and basically making it clear that you don't ever want to test him or the gang.
December surely did provide even more music moments and ended off in a fairly decent way. 2019 has definitely provided many sounds and tunes that will follow us years and years later. I look forward to seeing what 2020 will bring us musically!
